We depart from Tirana heading north toward Shkodra, one of Albania’s most historically and culturally important cities. Located in the northwest of the country near the Montenegrin border, Shkodra is known for its rich heritage, religious harmony, and stunning natural surroundings.
Although one day is not enough to discover everything Shkodra has to offer, within 24 hours you will explore key landmarks, enjoy traditional cuisine, and experience the authentic spirit of northern Albania.
Our tour begins at Rruga Kolë Idromeno, also known as Pedonalja, a lively pedestrian street filled with cafés, restaurants, and boutique shops. This vibrant area is the heart of modern Shkodra and the perfect place to soak in the city’s atmosphere.
Next, we visit the Marubi National Museum of Photography, one of Albania’s most important cultural institutions. The museum showcases an exceptional collection documenting Albanian life over more than a century, offering a unique visual journey through the country’s past.
Continuing our walk through the city center, we reach a remarkable neighborhood where a mosque, a Catholic church, and an Orthodox church stand within just a few minutes of each other — a powerful symbol of Albania’s long-standing tradition of religious coexistence.
Time to enjoy a traditional lunch, where you can taste local specialties and experience the flavors of northern Albanian cuisine.
After lunch, we head to the outskirts of the city to visit Rozafa Fortress, considered one of the most beautiful fortresses in Albania. Perched on a hill, the castle offers breathtaking panoramic views over Shkodra and Lake Shkodra.
Founded by the Illyrians in antiquity and later rebuilt by Venetian and Ottoman rulers, the fortress is rich in legends and history. Inside, you can explore ancient walls, ruins, and structures left behind by past civilizations.
After exploring Rozafa Fortress and learning about its fascinating history, we begin our journey back to Tirana, filled with cultural discoveries and unforgettable views.
This tour is perfect for travelers who want to explore Albania’s northern culture, history, and traditions in one day. From vibrant pedestrian streets and iconic museums to legendary fortresses with breathtaking views, Shkodra offers a rich and authentic Albanian experience.
